About the tourist tax
The Visitax tourist tax is a mandatory contribution established by the State of Quintana Roo, Mexico. It applies to all foreign visitors aged fifteen (15) and over entering the state through any of its ports of entry, including Cancún International Airport, Cozumel and the Riviera Maya.

Who must pay
The tax must be paid by:
- Foreign nationals aged 15 or over visiting Quintana Roo for tourism or business.
- Cruise passengers disembarking in the state.
- Digital nomads and long-stay visitors during the length of their stay.
- Minors under 15, Mexican citizens and permanent residents are exempt.

Legal basis
The contribution is established under the Fiscal Code of the State of Quintana Roo and its Rights Law, applicable to non-resident foreign visitors. The fee is used to fund tourism infrastructure, environmental protection and public safety programmes in the state.
